BOUGHERARA

Born in Algiers, Linda Bougherara grew up between the Aurès region and the Algerian capital and now lives and works between Algeria, France, and Morocco. Her artistic approach draws on cultural knowledge transmitted through oral traditions, wool weaving, natural dyeing, and pottery.

Working across diverse supports—including paper, textiles, algae-based materials, and painted books—and using techniques such as watercolor, charcoal, and ink, Lindacexplores the relationship between material, gesture, and abstraction. Her work is characterized by a restrained, process-oriented approach in which cultural memory and the natural environment inform the act of painting.

Her abstract compositions unfold on both traditional and experimental surfaces, positioning her practice at the intersection of heritage, material research, and contemporary abstraction.

Artistic Approach

Linda establishes a special connection with colours that hold a significant place in her life and work; an imaginary grip on memories. This transposition feeds on emotions and sensations, which she expresses through the colours of the soul. The inflection of the gesture creates luminous flows that she dominates and improvises, then tames and releases.

In unison with her reverie, whether joyful or melancholic, the flow of colours swells and spreads to find secret, dreamlike landscapes that build bridges. A strange dialogue is established between consciousness and the premonition of a familiar territory that has been abandoned and is reappearing. Silhouettes appear: the contours of a hill, a female body, the ocean, foliage agitated by the wind and clouds in a foggy sky. It is an adventure of colour, conducted without calculation by a sensual and warm travelling soul.
